11 Arab Countries in the 2024 Global Innovation Index

The Global Innovation Index ranks economies based on income group and global region, while also identifying economies that excel in innovation relative to their level of development.

The 2024 Global Innovation Index ranking is primarily based on data from 2022 and 2023 (approximately 80% of the total data).

Innovation Leaders in 2024 The report reveals that medium-income Asian economies like China, India, Indonesia, and Turkey are steadily advancing.

Meanwhile, Thailand and Vietnam are approaching the top 40 economies list, and Morocco has joined the group of medium-income economies in the top 70 of the Global Innovation Index, marking the fastest progress in the index ranking since 2013.

The Innovation Index report ranked around 100 countries, with Arab countries securing 11 spots in the 2024 Global Innovation Index.

The ranking is based on several indicators, including: “knowledge and technology outputs, human capital and research, infrastructure, and market sophistication.”

Switzerland topped the 2024 Global Innovation Index, followed by Sweden in second place, the U.S. in third, and Singapore and the UK in the subsequent spots.

Strong Arab Representation in the List The 2024 Global Innovation Index includes 11 Arab countries in its top 100 ranking.

The UAE led the Arab nations, ranking 32nd globally in the Global Innovation Index.

Saudi Arabia came second in the Arab world and 47th globally, while Qatar ranked third in the Arab world and 49th globally.

Morocco ranked fourth in the Arab world and 66th globally in the 2024 Global Innovation Index, followed by Kuwait, Bahrain, Jordan, and Oman in the 5th to 8th positions in the Arab world, and 71st to 74th globally.

Tunisia ranked ninth in the Arab world in the Innovation Index and 81st globally, while Egypt ranked tenth in the Arab world and 86th globally in the 2024 Global Innovation Index.

Lebanon was ranked 11th in the Arab world and 94th globally in the Innovation Index.
