Coursera: AI is Reshaping the Global Job Market and Driving a New Generation of Digital Skills

A report issued by Coursera on 2026 job skills reveals that the global labor market is entering a new era driven by Artificial Intelligence (AI).

This transition requires the development of technical expertise and AI literacy alongside the cultivation of human judgment and evaluation skills.

The report notes that organizations and governments that proactively invest in reskilling and upskilling their workforce will be better positioned to drive innovation and economic growth.

According to a summary prepared by the Media and Public Relations Department of the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA)—a copy of which was obtained by Outsourcing—Generative AI (GenAI) is set to radically change the rules of the job market. Its role will extend beyond mere task automation to augmenting human capabilities, creating a new model for human-machine collaboration.

Empowerment of Women in the Digital Economy

The report highlights a steady increase in women’s participation in technology training programs between 2023 and 2025:

  • Data Science: Increased from 32% to 35%.
  • Information Technology: Increased from 29% to 32%.
  • Software Development: Increased from 30% to 33%.
  • Generative AI: A significant surge in participation, reaching 41% in 2025, reflecting a growing commitment to empowering female talent in advanced technologies.

The Dynamics of AI Integration

Data shows that approximately 47% of AI interactions contribute to augmenting human work, while 49% are used to fully automate tasks.

Notably, 88% of leaders believe that AI investments may fail to deliver desired results without parallel investment in workforce training.

As we head into 2026, GenAI courses are expected to be among the fastest-growing skills globally.

The report predicts a rising trend in merging AI skills with core technical competencies. Professionals will increasingly leverage AI to enhance software development tools, databases (such as SQL), data formats (such as JSON), web applications, and data analytics.

Emerging Specialized Skills

A specialized suite of AI-related skills is evolving rapidly, including:

  • Prompt Engineering
  • Natural Language Processing (NLP)
  • Multimodal Interaction with AI systems

The report emphasizes that GenAI is no longer a niche skill for engineers; it has become a universal competency across sectors such as Marketing, Operations, Sales, and Product Management.

Corporate interest in GenAI training has skyrocketed by 234% annually, with high demand for skills in content customization, image analysis, and the development of Generative AI Agents.

Governance and Security

With the rapid expansion of AI systems, the report underscores that Cybersecurity, Privacy, and Governance have become essential for responsible usage.

Demand is expected to peak in 2026 for specialists in Responsible AI, Information Privacy, and Data Governance.

Fastest-Growing Roles by 2026

The fields of Data and Analytics lead the list of fastest-growing functional areas:

  1. Big Data Specialists: Expected global demand growth of 113%.
  2. AI and Machine Learning Specialists: Growth of 82%.
