Daniel Julian, from fan of The Adventures of Tintin to leading TelePerformance

Frenchman Daniel Julien, Chairman and CEO of TelePerformance International, was born on December 23, 1952. His beginnings were somewhat humble.

Julien grew up as the fictional character in the Adventures of Tintin series, who wished to travel like him to all parts of the world.

Julien began his working life as a sales manager at Jacquet and then as a product manager at Boursin. In 1978, when he was 26 years old, Daniel decided to establish Teleperformance, which currently has more than 420,000 employees with a revenue exceeding $8.4 billion annually and operates in 170 countries around the world.

Daniel started TelePerformance with only 10 telephone lines through an office in Paris and in 1985 the company occupied first place in the French market.

In 1986, Teleperformance began its first expansion abroad in the markets of Belgium and Italy, and two years later it launched its subsidiaries in other European markets such as Spain, Germany, Sweden and Britain.

In 1989, Daniel Julien and his companion Jacques Béribe joined the presidency of Rochefortaise Communication, the parent company of Teleperformance International listed on the Paris Stock Exchange.

In 1992, Teleperformance USA was established, and began its call center operations in the United States, followed by establishing operations in the Philippines and Singapore.

The group then expanded significantly in Europe by implementing acquisitions of startup companies in Switzerland, Norway, Denmark, and Greece. Spain, the Netherlands, and Finland, and during the period from 1998 to 2002, its network extended throughout the Americas to the countries of Argentina, Brazil, and Mexico.

In 2011, Daniel became Chairman and CEO of Teleperformance and continues to hold this position today. He also holds 4 other positions, including Chairman and CEO of CallTech Communications, Chairman and CEO of Teleperformance USA, and Chairman of the Board of Directors and CEO. For AllianceOne, it also manages 23 other entities.

In 2015, Julian joined Nanyang Technological University in Singapore and obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, then a Master’s degree in Business Analytics and Big Data in 2017.

At the beginning of its activity, Tele Performance’s business model was based on mail subscriptions, but during the 1980s all major companies turned to using other entities to provide their customer services, and Daniel Julian then became a major player in this promising market and spread his network across all continents to benefit from the increase.
