Michael Tinsley: The Only College Graduate Among Nine Siblings, Now a CEO
Michael Tinsley is the President and CEO of NeoSystems, a Virginia-based company that offers comprehensive outsourcing solutions, IT systems, and managed services.
Tinsley grew up in a small, impoverished town in rural western Kentucky, USA, where manual labor was the primary source of income.
Hay baling was a common summer job for children to earn money. Kids would join farm crews, spending long, arduous days in the fields, collecting bales and loading them onto trucks to be stacked in haylofts within barns.
“We were very poor, but this was common in our town,” Michael says. “My father became disabled due to respiratory problems from years of working in the mines. Sometimes, public assistance was the only way to secure food for the family.”
Among his nine siblings, he was one of four who graduated from high school and the only one to attend college, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Murray State University in Kentucky.
He later became an innovative entrepreneur, developing solutions that help hundreds of companies achieve strong performance.
Tinsley founded NeoSystems in 2000. Over time, the company expanded to manage the daily strategic administrative tasks for over 200 clients across various sectors.
One of NeoSystems’ services is providing expertise to companies seeking to comply with the U.S. Department of Defense’s Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) program.
Before founding NeoSystems, Tinsley served as Vice President of Finance and Administration at BroadSoft, a VoIP solutions provider, and as CFO of Scientific Research Corporation, a research and engineering firm specializing in defense communication systems.
Throughout his career, Tinsley has gained extensive experience in financial management. He was recognized by Ernst & Young as a finalist for the Entrepreneur of the Year award in the Greater Washington D.C. area and the Mid-Atlantic region in 2015 and 2016, respectively.
Today, NeoSystems supports the “Suited for Change” charity, which paves the way for economically disadvantaged young women by helping them understand the business world and providing them with appropriate clothing to start their careers.
